Facts That Nigerians Have Moved America Forward

Image
By Okechukwu Okugo The name, Nigeria, rings in many people's minds as scammers, fraudulent or bad people. The international media is solely responsible for that. They portray all Nigerians as fraudsters, while leaving out the facts that Nigerians have affected the globe, in all ramifications positively. And this negative image has shrouded the fact, who Nigerians really are. Nigerians have moved America forward. This is primarily as a result of two reasons. Firstly, Nigerians hold a record no other group of people in America holds. Secondly, In all the sectors of American economy, Nigerians have contributed significantly (in a way no person can cover their positive impacts and records. It is glaring for all to see). Be it in aeronautics, medical, engineering, arts, sports, entertainment etc. A 2006 American Community Survey by the U.S. Census Bureau, showed that the population of educated Nigerians surpass that of all other groups in the whole U.S. For example, the sur...

Male Circumcision In Igbo Land

Image
By Okechukwu Okugo One of the cultural and traditional practices of the Igbo people of West Africa; residing in the southeastern part of Nigeria, that can be traced back to Stone Age, is male circumcision. Though females were circumcised alongside males, in those olden years, today in all Igbo communities, female circumcisions and genital mutilations have been stopped. For the male, as a matter of culture, on the 8th day after birth, they will be circumcised. At which the excess foreskin on the penis head is removed. It seemed that one of the reasons their forefathers carried out this practice, was to avoid the inability to retract the foreskin of the penis, which occurs when the excess skin were not removed. Thus circumcision, a slight surgical operation, is used by the people, to help return the foreskin to its original location. In the olden days, it were performed predominantly by traditional midwifes or native doctors. And today, for hygienic purposes, physicians perf...

Reasons Why The Time to invest in Africa Is Now

Image
By Dr. DEE.F Egwuatu Dominic PhD One of the areas it is always good spreading your seeds on multiple channels or avenues is in the field of investments. Undoubtedly, Africa is a continent that is standing out among all other continents of the world considering how richly it is endowed with abundant human, natural and agricultural resources. Better yielding land for both cash crop and food crop production exist in Africa. Africa is the only continent that possesses the resources needed by the developed economies to sustain the rate of their development and growth today, which is why the time to come invest in Africa is now. The expected strong growth in the world’s economy is higher in Africa than in many of the developed nations. From the World Bank projections, out of the 15 countries in the world with the highest rate of five-year economic growth, 9 are in Africa. Yes, the factual estimation of the IMF that the real GDP of sub-Saharan Africa as a whole will grow by 5.8...

Six-Legged Giant Finds Secret Hideaway, Hides For 80 Years

Image
Updated January 18, 2016 1:39 PM ET Published  February 29, 2012 10:10 AM ET Commentary ROBERT KRULWICH SOURCE: WWW.NPR.ORG No, this isn't a make-believe place. It's real. They call it "Ball's Pyramid." It's what's left of an old volcano that emerged from the sea about 7 million years ago. A British naval officer named Ball was the first European to see it in 1788. It sits off Australia, in the South Pacific. It is extremely narrow, 1,844 feet high, and it sits alone. What's more, for years this place had a secret. At 225 feet above sea level, hanging on the rock surface, there is a small, spindly little bush, and under that bush, a few years ago, two climbers, working in the dark, found something totally improbable hiding in the soil below. How it got there, we still don't know. A satellite view of Ball's Pyramid in the Tasman Sea off the eastern coast of Australia. Google Maps Here's the stor...

The Super Power Status Of Common Sense

Image
Taken from www.colinmcnulty.com Obituary: Common Sense by   COLIN MCNULTY   on   13 MAY 2011 An Obituary  printed in the London Times   originally by Lori Borgman (See comments)  – Interesting and sadly rather true: Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend,  Common Sense , who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: – Knowing when to come in out of the rain; – Why the early bird gets the worm; – Life isn’t always fair; – and Maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies ( don’t spend more than you earn ) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of  a 6-year-old boy charged with s...

Finally! The FDA Admits That Nearly Over 70% of U.S. Chickens Contain Cancer-Causing Arsenic

Image
Parent Society Lauren DeCuir 2015-01-15   I don’t know about the rest of you, but lately my poultry purchases at my local market have become more and more of a ‘hit-and-miss’ situation, with more ‘misses’ if I’m being honest. As I bite into my homemade chicken nuggets or Coq au Vin (when I’m feeling fancy) I can’t help but feel that the chicken just tastes weird, stringy, just… funny . So a few days ago when I turned on the tube and saw the news headlines stating that the FDA has finally confirmed that chicken meat sold in the USA contains arsenic, my head, and stomach, nearly hit the roof. This cancer-causing toxic chemical, that in high doses could kill you, is actually being added to chicken feed on purpose, giving store-bought chicken the illusion of healthy coloring and plump appearance. Shockingly, this is the case with more than 70 percent of all U.S. chickens! That is just awful! The FDA has asked Pfizer to stop manufacturing the arsenic-containing drug, Roxa...
