WHY IS AFRICA STILL UNDERDEVELOPED?

WHY IS AFRICA STILL UNDERDEVELOPED? By OkechukwuOkugo NEW YORK – All countries are not equal as regards the natural endowment of resources. And there seems to be a great advantage for countriesthat have abundant resources;they do not need to import as many raw materials as such have opportunity to increase its economic strength through the income gained fromexporting such resources. These natural resources are the primary factors of production and their availability give countries comparative advantage in trade. Africa has a natural surplus supply of various types of resources including oil, diamonds, silver, gold, brass, cobalt, uranium, tin, bauxite, Petroleum, copper, aluminum, cocoa, rubber, woods, tropical fruits etc.; much of Africa’s natural resources are still undiscovered. Yet Africa is the most underdeveloped and the poorest continent in the world, whereas so many Asian and European countries without a single natural resource e.g. Singapore which imports even water

Why Earth 2.0 could be just like Earth

Image
Why Earth 2.0 could be just like Earth "Oh this is incredibly exciting," said one of the many scientists put in front of the TV cameras. But whether or not you own a telescope or have a star named after you, this really is exciting. Nasa scientists say they have discovered a planet more like Earth than any other. Here's our guide to why you (as well as those scientists) should be excited and why "Earth 2.0" is just like our home planet. Firstly... that name Nasa's labelled the new discovery "Earth 2.0" after describing it as our planet's "bigger cousin". Kepler-452b is its more technical name. It was named after the telescope that spotted it, the Kepler space telescope. Is it really like our Earth? Image caption Artist's impressions of exoplanets discovered by Kepler, alongside Earth. THE NEED FOR IMPROVEMENT

Image
THE NEED FOR IMPROVEMENT By OkechukwuOkugo NEW YORK – The universe is never static despite its staggering complexities. The galaxy where our earth exists is called the Milky Way galaxy. Our sun is one out of over a 100 billion stars that exist in this singular galaxy.  Yet our universe contains more than 50 billion galaxies each with billions of stars like our sun. What is amazing with our universe is not the intricacies of these uncountable number of galaxies with their stars but the fact that they are all in constant motion. Thus we are living in an expanding universe. Theearth is at an ideal distance from the sun, despite the fact that it rotates on its axis once a day, it also orbits the sun in a circular course. As we can see, the Earth we live in, itself is in constant motion. Till today more galaxies and planets are still discovered. New amazing animals never seen before and plants are still discovered. Everyday man finds out that the information he had yesterday

Zimbabwe’s Most Famous Lion Is Now a Hunting Trophy

The killing of Cecil the lion, a black-maned inhabitant of Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, has sparked outrage from conservationists. As one of the oldest and largest male lions in Zimbabwe, Cecil was known by park rangers and safari drivers alike—a popular tourist attraction for the thousands of visitors to the park each year. But last week, the lion crossed just outside the park’s border, and a bow hunter shot the 13-year-old big cat. The hunters reportedly tracked down the wounded lion two days later,  killing him with a rifle . The Zimbabwe Professional Hunters and Guides Association  confirmed  that Cecil was killed outside the park on private land, meaning the killing wasn’t illegal. “There is an investigation ongoing at this time,” the group said in a statement. “We ask that members and non members refrain from speculating until all facts have been documented.” Beks Ndlovo, chief executive of the African Bush Camps—a locally owned private safari company—said th

Africans seeking better lives pass through Ethiopian town

METEMA, Ethiopia (AP) — The mood in the border town of Metema these days is quiet and watchful. Dozens of houses on the hot, dusty main road that stretches from Ethiopia into Sudan look like they have been hastily closed. Guards grimly patrol the border, stopping anyone who looks like an illegal migrant. The nightclubs and bars are emptier than usual, although they still attract Sudanese who are not allowed to drink alcohol in their own country under Shariah law. Metema, with about 100,000 people, is one of a handful of towns across the region that serve as feeders for a booming trade in migrants from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia and Sudan, many hoping to make their way to Europe. Life here is now a cat-and-mouse game: The authorities are cracking down, yet the migrants just keep coming, often risking death. Since 30 Ethiopian Christians who passed through Metema were killed by the Islamic State group in Libya a few months ago, the Ethiopian government has become far more
