Compelling Reasons Why You Must Spend Your Next Vacation In Ethiopia, Africa

Not only that Ethiopia is a very ancient civilization in Africa but a beautiful country. It is in the horn of Africa. Most of the country is taken up by a central plateau but because much of central Ethiopia is mountainous, Ethiopia's land cannot be described as a plateau.

Below is some of the reasons why this beauteous peaceful land is an interesting spot to vacate:



1. Ethiopia is Africa's one of best bird watching locations with over 800 bird species, including over 20 that are endemic to the region.

2. There is an unequaled World Heritage Site in Ethiopia located at Gonder, a conglomeration of majestic castles built by Emperor Fasiladas in the 1640s. The inside compound of this grand palace is very vast and with the employ of a knowledgeable well trained guide that costs not more than Birr100, you would absolutely enjoy your tour of this ancient facility, a 70,000-sq-meter compound containing many other ancient castles and palaces.

You can pay many tuneful Ethiopian musicians to play for you a special song with the Ethiopian krar, a musical instrument that produces honeyed notes.

3. Have you witnessed a spectacular waterfalls of numerous rivers before? 30 km downstream from the town of Bahir Dar and Lake Tana at the upper course of the river, that you would experience at the Blue Nile Falls, a waterfall on the special Blue Nile known as Tis Abay in Amharic, which means "Smoking water." This fall by measurement is between 37 and 45m high.

A short distance downstream from the falls, you will find the first stone bridge constructed under the command of an Ethiopian Emperor, Susenyos; supervised by an Indian craftsman alongside an indigenous patriarch, Alfonso Mendes as far back as 1626.

4. Are you a mountain climber, or do you want to try out your first mountain climb on a vacation? Then here should be an area of special interest with the location of the tenth highest mountain in Africa, Ras Dashen, and the highest mountain in Ethiopia. Its elevation is 15158ft located in the Simien Mountains National Park. The most favorable months to climb this mountain are September, October, November and December.

5. Visit the Africa Hall in Addis Ababa, the permanent headquarters of UNECA, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, a modern classic building consisting of 3,600 meter-squared of conference halls, 5,500 meter-squared of offices and 4,700 meter-squared of general facilities.

This modern structure was built in 1961.

Inside this Africa hall you will see a world famous work, a 150 meter-squared stained glass triptych, with images symbolizing African nations uniting against Africa's poverty and diseases. This work is entitled "Total liberation of Africa."

It is also in this Africa hall that OAU, was founded in 1963; an organization that later became known as African Union today.

6. Do you know "Lucy" the partial skeleton? Visit Ethiopia's National Museum in Addis Ababa and see firsthand this specimen of Australopithecus afarensis estimated to be 3.3 million years old. By this old age "Lucy" is therefore considered to be the earliest child. You will see other fossilized remains and many precious archaeological finds
