5 Simple Steps To Turn Your Idea Into Business And Thrive

By Okechukwu Okugo

Do you have idea or ideas but don't know how to turn it into business? Retailing or buying/selling business in which one knows what to sell, how to get it and then locating potential buyers is usually a direct form of business.
In simple terms, the buyer only having the problem of sourcing where to buy cheaper always and how to enhance strategies appealing to potential buyers to maximize their profit margin.
But this is not usually the case with ideas that suddenly come into the head.
Turning an idea into a business might be one of the hardest things to implement or do.

Below are 5 simple steps that can help you, directly or indirectly, turn almost any idea into business:

1. Turn your idea into a product or service: first of all ask yourself how do you turn or convert the idea in your head to a product or service?
Idea is abstract you must first of all be able to condense or materialize it into a product or service in such a way that it can now be applied to solve a specific problem.
This is the most vital step before you can ever think of converting that idea into business.

A simple illustration: For example, when you are in a locality where there is no pipe borne water and a water source very far away.
Realizing that water exists beneath the ground, let us consider it as an idea in the head.

Then converting this simple idea to product will involve formatting a way to dig up the ground get the water and now provide it to the people that really needed it with the aim of earning something from the idea in the first place.

2. When you have finally succeeded in converting that idea into a product or service, the next step is to ask yourself what is the modest way you can apply this product or service to kick off with it as a business?

Converting your idea to a product or service might involve some other factors or complexities and may require a kind of huge involvement.
You might be required to put certain physical or material things into play before the idea can be successfully turned into a product or service.
At this moment think of the smallest way you can begin.

Continuing with the same illustration above: the ground must be dug up and the water accessed before the "idea" can be turned into a product or service.
Let us say that digging up the ground to get the water might call into use, the mounting of heavy machinery for digging and harvesting the water; including providing also a big water storage tanker from which you can now start selling the "product" to the people.

The practical thing now might be that, if you want to start by kicking off big like that at first, getting all the machinery required; you may never see your idea actualize.

But there can be a way to kick off modestly or the smallest way possible.

For example, instead of finding where to borrow a loan or finding a sponsor to provide the machinery to start off; you can actually start by arming yourself with a shovel, or digger which is more modest to provide, then digging up the ground manually yourself and with a bucket harvest the water and store in a moderate container from which you can now start selling it to the people.

No matter how odd it might look, as far as it is the most modest way you can use to kick start, be proud to implement it.

Because it is highly needed people will rush for it, gradually you will start saving money and with time, no matter how long, you would become able to purchase the machinery and set up something big such that no one might even believe how modestly you kicked off.
The journey of 2 million miles starts with just a step. Rome was not built in a day.

3. When you have spotted the way to start, and has really kicked off. You do not have to start looking up to the stars for patronizers or potential customers; start from the people around you: friends, families, neighbors etc. before going to the general public.

The people you know are usually your first and best point of business contacts. The nice thing about good craftsmanship and superb services is that word of mouth and attestation will bring your way more customers.
People also see and recognize practical solutions and go for it. Sooner or later you would see that you'd blow.

4. Even right from the start, have the plans of gradual expansion in your focus. Do not be satisfied with your little base or the surrounding customers you have, because if you rely on them, once they begrudge or get tired of you they can kill your dream.

While doing everything to keep them, look beyond your present customers and format plans on how to reach a wider prospective customer base.

Most times people impose limitations on themselves. And you can only expand according to the capacity you have envisioned for yourself.
If you have a very myopic dream you cannot surpass it but when you set your standard or target higher, even if you do not reach your goal, you will be way above average.

5. At this final stage, make sure you have a well outlined goal of where you are going with the business.
Work according to the blueprint you have carefully laid out for your business.
Do not think that success come by chance but with hard work, focus and a goal-oriented living.
